William Spence

Before embarking on a Cisco Networking Academy course at Cisco Academy MCT, William Spence was keen to pursue a career within construction. He found himself at a crossroads; a crossroads that wasn’t presenting him with much opportunity and that had a negative impact on his mental health. During his induction at MCT, the team discussed and explored a possible career pathway into tech, which turned a flicker of passion in to a furnace. To help develop his knowledge and understanding of tech further, William enrolled onto the NetAcad programme and within a couple of weeks from enrolling and completing some initial modules, he was undertaking a 2-day training workshop with NetAcad Partner Straight Up Technologies. It was rewarding to see him develop his knowledge and confidence, but also grow as an individual during this time. The ‘cherry on the top’ was when William was interviewed and selected to join the Event IT Team at the Open Golf Championships working alongside the professional at SUT.
